The expeditions to find the Bar ceramics samples are being conducted

10.10.2024
The Bar’s ceramics search expedition participants visited the Cities of Berdychiv, Zhytomir, Kyiv, L’viv as well as the villages in the Regions of Vinnitsa, Khmel’nits’ky – around the 30 settlements in a total number. The Bar’s project team, which includes the potters, scientists, art experts, has a goal to find and make the photos of the unique samples of the Bar’s ceramic tableware. That is why; the searches are conducted in the museums funds and expositions (from the local museums up to the national museums), the private collections, the Ukraine studies departments at the educational institutions, the art houses and the regional residents. The «The Bar’s ceramics search» and «Where only the Bar’s jar was not present» expeditions were conducted by the team in the frames of the «Bar ceramics traditions revival v.2.0» project, which is completed by the «The Bar city arts amateur theater» non-governmental organization (NGO) in a close collaboration with the Kharkiv state academy of culture as well as the Ukrainian centre of cultural researches as well as the Department of culture and creative industries at the Vinnitsa regional state administration under the support by the Ukrainian culture foundation. As it was told by Mr. Roman Grygor’ev, a project manager and a «The Bar city arts amateur theater» director, the team of researchers visited a number of places, where the Bar’s ceramic samples were found. Specifically, the Bar’s project team visited: the «Busha» state historical-cultural reserve, the Mr. Oleksiy Alyoshkin and Mrs. Lyudmyla Alyoshkin open sky gallery at the Village of Bukatinka, the Bread museum at the Village of Bilopillya, the Berdychiv city history museum, the Berdychiv central city library, the Literary-memorial museum named after Mr. M. P. Stel’makh, the L’viv ethnography and crafts museum at the Ethnology institute of the Ukrainian national academy of sciences (UNAS), and also the settlements at the former Bar’s district and the nearby districts in the Vinnytsia and Khmel’nyts’ky regions. A visit to the City of Kyiv can be regarded as a most fruitful trip, because the Bar’s project team had a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the funds at the Ukraine folk decorative arts national museum, the Ukraine folk architecture and lifestyle national museum and the Ukraine history national museum. Mr. Roman Grygor’ev explains: «We had a rare opportunity to see the Podolia’ ceramics samples, which are preserved in the museums’ funds, in person. Thanks to the coordinated work by the museums’ staff and by the search expedition participants, the Bar’s masters-potters’ products from the past centuries were carefully selected and clearly identified». A part of the Bar’s ceramics samples, which were found at the expedition, was presented to the «The Bar ceramics folk museum». The first exhibits for the museum’s exhibition fund came from Mr. Volodymyr Tytarenko, a Ukraine honored arts patron and Dr. Anatoly Sherban’, a project’s consultant. Also, we express our sincere gratitude for the Bar’s ceramics samples from the Village of Murovani-Kurylivtsi to the following residents: Mrs. Nadiya Lastovlyak Gorai and Bin’kovs’kyh family and Mrs. Svitlana Borzhems’ka Verbovets, an art house director. Our special thanks are expressed to Mrs. Valentyna Veklyuk, a head of the department of the culture, youth and tourism, at the Murovani-Kurylivtsi settlement council. This year research expeditions can be considered as a continuation of the systemic work, which began in 2018, toward the Bar’s ceramics revival. On that time, the Bar’s project team visited the museums in the Region of Poltava, where a big collection of the Podolia’s ceramic things is stored at the Ukrainian pottery national museum-heritage-site in Opishne. The Bar’s project team has a plan to continue a search for the Bar’s ceramics products not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. There is an every reason to do this, because the Bar’s potters’ authentic products are stored in the collections at the museums in Poland and Germany. During the ethnographic expeditions in the end of the ХІХ century – in the beginning of the ХХ century, many samples of the Bar ceramics were also taken to the City of Saint Petersburg and to the Province of Bessarabia. Therefore, there is an unlimited space for the future researches.
