The «Ivan Gonchar Museum» Ukrainian center of folk culture

The Mr. Ivan Gonchar’s museum is a legendary treasure, which was founded by one man. Since 1950s, Mr. Ivan Makarovych Gonchar (1911 – 1993), who was a talented artist, conducted his Ukrainian people’s cultural heritage preservation work in conditions of a fight with the Soviet totalitarian regime. As a result, a private collection with the Ukrainian people artifacts from XVI – XX centuries was created. We can say that his art house transformed into the Ukrainian culture center. In 1993, the I. M. Gonchar state museum was established in Kyiv. Over the years, it transformed into the Ukrainian culture center: «Ivan Gonchar Museum» (1999), and it obtained a statue of the «national» museum in 2009. Presently the museum’s collection has above the 20 thousand of folk art pieces, samples of traditional life style, old published books, archive materials, art paints and sculptures by І. М. Gonchar. Among the museum’s art pieces, the products by the Bar’s potters are presented. They can be seen in the museum’s exhibitions and funds.
