The Bread museum at the Village of Bilopillya

The Bread folk museum at the Village of Bilopillya at the District of Kozyatyn can be described as a living history of both the Ukrainian bread-making traditions and the Ukrainian national agricultural traditions. A story of the museum began in 1986. There is a «windmill», which is located at the museum’s complex territory - the architectural monument of the XVIII century. This is a most interesting object to look at for the museum’s visitors. At the first and second windmill tiers, there is an exposition, presenting the information on the bread history since the ancient times up to the present days. Here, it is possible to learn more about the bread origin, the bread bakers and to see the rye, wheat, barley, millet, buckwheat, and peas sheafs as well as their threshed grains at the glass jars. Along with the windmill, there are the two objects: 1) an outbuilding for the threshing and storage of bread as well as 2) a house, which are known as the main excursion sites. At the yard, where the excursion begins, the agricultural antique remains are demonstrated as well as the different stories about the antique items are told. Looking into the exhibits inside the house, the visitors can learn more about the Podolia’s ceramics interesting samples: the painted jars, jugs, etc. A special exhibit attracts the visitor’s attention: The Bar’s jar with the broken handle and the damaged neck, which occurred as a result of its constant use. What is special about it? And here is what: the original system with the ropes and the two transverse sticks, which served for the carrying of a bath with the liquid, is used instead of the handle in this ceramic jar. It is interestingly enough to say that, despite the missing parts, the Bar’s dishes had been employed in an operational use by the owners, because they were considered to be as the quite valuable things! In the beginning, the local agricultural business enterprise took care about the museum, however the Bilopillya’s Bread museum was awarded the «folk-museum» status and it began to be funded by the state since 1996. Mrs. Nina Petrivna Klymova was a head of the museum complex since 2001 until 2013, Mrs. Anastasiya Gumenyuk was a head of the museum complex since 2013 until 2016, Mr. Sergiy Stanislavovych Rybachuk was а head of the museum complex since 2016. The museum has around the 1100 different antique exhibits.
