The Bar history museum
A story on the Bar’s region history and culture over the eight centuries – the Town of Bar is the Bar’s ceramics motherland - is presented in a number of collections at the Bar’s history museum.
Mr. Ivan Barladin, Mr. Mykola Yoltukhovsky and Mr. Borys Lyubunya founded the Bar’s history museum. Mr. Borys Lyubunya was a first director. On that time, the Bar’s museum was situated at the Bar’s professional-technical college №8.
The Bar’s museum opened its doors for the visitors on May 8, 1985. The first name of the Bar’s museum was «The museum of revolution, military struggle and labour glory». In 1991, the Bar’s museum became known as the folk museum. In 2001, it became called as «The museum of history of the town of Bar». Over the years, the collected materials made it possible to widen the theme of exposition and the Bar’s museum has focused on the historical direction mainly. Since 2021, it is re-named as «The Bar history museum».
Presently, the Bar’s museum collection has above the 9 thousand exhibits, which can be considered as the Bar’s region’s people’ ethnographic memories. All the artifacts have been collected at the Bar’s region and its surroundings. A main source of the Bar’s museum collection development is the presents from the people. The Bar’s museum exposition is built in a chronological order mainly.
The Bar’s museum materials tell a story about the Bar’s development, architecture and historical events, which had an impact on the town over the years. The ethno-graphics of our region is closely represented by the Bar’s labour instruments, household subjects, man and women clothes, towels and well known pottery products from the ХІХ- ХХ centuries. The ceramic products by the masters-potters from Bar are exhibited in the museum exposition.
The exhibited planimetric pottery work by Pavlo Samolovych, who is a famous Bar’s potter, attracts a special attention from the side of the Bar’s museum visitors. It is difficult to imagine the Vinnitsa cultural heritage without his painting contributions.
